A. Meals

    1. When there is a New Baby, we will send over a meal if the family accepts our offer.  Please coordinate this through Pastor Jason who will reach out to the family on behalf of Messiah and will notify this committee if the family want a meal.

    2. When a member is ill/injured or has had surgery, we will offer to provide meals every other night for two weeks or every night for one week, and we will offer to run any emergency errands such as to the pharmacy, etc.  We offer meals based on the number of members who responded to help.  Meals do not need to be provided every night, as most people make enough food for two meals.  At the end of the 2 weeks, we want to remind members that Meals on Wheels supports residents of the Landings Monday through Friday.

    3. When a member is chronically ill or incapacitated and not living in assisted living, we will offer to provide meals every other night for two weeks or every night for one week, and again we will offer to run any emergency errands.  We will try to make clear that two weeks is the limit and refer the member to two local care services:  Comfort Keepers and Home Instead Senior Care.  The general thought is to encourage the person to get routine (daily) professional care.

     B. Visits

When a member is chronically ill or incapacitated, and lives in an assisted living facility (where the daily living needs are met), we will provide visitation and transportation to church.  We will try to visit this person at least every other week.
We need to be aware and visit people in this category.  Stay connected.  More about this process will be provided.

II. Transportation
Our group  assists members in need by providing transportation to and from church, and, on a limited basis to doctor appointments and errands (as part of Parish Life responsibilities) . Please contact the office to get the process started.  Pam Allen will coordinate this part of our outreach.

1 . Meals and Visits
This group assists the congregation by preparing and delivering meals to (i) members who are new parents, (ii) members who are recovering from injury, illness or hospitalization, (iii) members who have lost a member of the immediate family, and (iv) other members in need.

Coordinator's Responsibility:
News of a member who may possibly need assistance may come from the member directly or from the Pastor or another church member who has a relationship with the person/family in need. Before contacting the committee, the personal contact should confirm that the family is interested in our help.   If the answer is "yes", you have made the personal contact.  Contact the Coordinator (Andrea Felkins, 2017) who will email the list of volunteers and establish a schedule for (i) the preparation and delivery of meals when appropriate and (ii) and communicate with the recipient of the meals.

Committee Members signed up to Help: These members, collectively known as "Sonshine Volunteers" have volunteered to prepare and deliver meals.

Guidelines for Meals:
Based on the results of a survey completed by members who provide meals, this ministry established the following guidelines for providing meals, Effective June 1, 2008:   With the start of a new church year (2017), Jill Poole is now the Parish Life Chair and we will revisit and revise these as appropriate.
